Laulupeol

wpid611-Scan-090929-0008-Edit-4-1.jpgAfter every four years, Estonians get together and throw a big party. We get together, we sing, sing, sing and sing more. Two days, at day or night, be it windy or rainy, we sing. Last time there were 10% of our entire population out there singing. Laulupidu(Song and Dance Celebration) has always been an important landmark in our past. At times when others have ruled here, it has served as a rare possibility to express our ethnic culture in public. With restrictions often, but that has never been a problem. Where is a will there is a way matches with estonians very well. That way it has been already for hundreds of years with estonian culture. Laulupidu did play an important role while Estonia was struggling to brake free from soviet block as well. Koit is one of the songs what was written around that time and has found it’s place among other ethnic hereditages. It is a story about a dawn which will hopefully arrive soon:

This summer we took part of the Laulupidu. First day it was raining heavily, we got home being all wet. Next day weather forecast promised that sunshine should reveal itself. Morning started out with rain, we decided to go. At some time during the day clouds did fade away and it was clear sunshine till to the evening: You can read more about Laulupidu here: Webpage of Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Foundation
